In the lens of National Agro Foundation Watershed Management is defined as 'Rational utilization of land and water sources for optimum production causing minimum damage to the natural resources'. The main goal of Watershed Management is to implant the sustainable management of natural resources through the following interventions
NAF is currently implementing various watershed projects under NABARD, State government and corporates under various phases of watershed development such as follows:
Pre capacity building phase
- Community mobilization, capacity building and institutional set up
- Capacity building of stakeholder
- Treatment measures in 10% of the project area to integrate the community in development activities and to facilitate learning in the Full implementation phase
Feasibility study phase
- Comprehensive development
- Integrated community approach
- Participatory implementation
- Inclusive development works with land less and SHG
- Adoption of technology through various trainings
- On field demonstration in project villages
- Sustainability plan with corpus fund development
KN Palayam watershed development project In Erode District, Supported by NABARD and Bannari Amman Sugars Pvt. Ltd
This project is in Full Implementation Phase. The villages covered under this project are Kondappanaicken palayam, Malaiyadiputhur, Dhasaripalayam, Kembanayakanpalayam, and Sathyamangalam. The total area of the watershed is 2072 Ha of which treatable area is 1161.2 Ha.
Major Interventions are Field bunds, Chisel Plough, Farm ponds, Agro forestry, Agro horticulture, fodder development, channel clearance etc.
Melpennathur Watershed In Tiruvannamalai District, Supported by NABARD & Bannari Amman Sugars Pvt. Ltd
NAF is implementing a Watershed Development Project covering 4 villages in Melpennathur watershed of Thiruvannamalai District. This project is supported by NABARD and Bannari Amman Sugars Pvt. Ltd. The total area of Melpennathur watershed is 1497.048 hectares which includes the area covered under capacity building phase and full implementation phase.
Major Interventions are Field bunds, Farm ponds, Agro forestry, Agro horticulture, construction of check dam etc.
Kuppachiparai Watershed in Krishnagiri District, Supported By NABARD & The Rotary Club Of Madras Coromandel
Kuppachiparai watershed development project is being supported by The Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel and NABARD with the assistance shared between them on 50:50 basis. The total area of watershed is 1673 Ha of which the treatable area is 1188 Ha. The villages covered under this project are Kuppachiparai, Kundhapalli, Lakapathanapalli, Marachandiram, Chinnakottur, Chennasandiram, Kondappanayakanapalli and Madhinayanapalayam.
Major Interventions are field bunds, farm ponds, chisel plough, water absorption trenches, Agro horticulture, agro forestry, LBS, Percolation pond and sunken pond.
Kolathankurichi Watershed Development Project in Cuddalore District, Supported by NABARD & TITAN
Kolathankurichi watershed is located in the Kattumanarkovil taluk of Cuddalore district. Full Implementation Phase of the project covers the following villages namely, Kondasamuthiram, Kolathankurichi (Ramapuram), Valiespet, Melpathi and Kilpathi. Total area of Kolathankurichi watershed is 1084.68 Ha including the area covered under capacity building phase and full implementation phase.
Major Interventions are Chisel Plough, Agro forestry, A gro horticulture, Channel formation, Construction of masonry check dam etc.
Thandakarankuppam Watershed Development Project in Cuddalore District, Supported by NABARD & TITAN
Thandakarankuppam watershed is located in the Kattumanarkovil block of Cuddalore district. Full Implementation Phase of the project covers the villages namely, Thandakarankuppam (Ramapuram), Kondasamuthiram, Mamangalam, Agaraputtur and Vanamadevi. Total area of Thandakarankuppam watershed is 1254.74 hectares including the area covered under capacity building phase and full implementation phase.
Major Interventions are Agro forestry, A gro horticulture, percolation pond, cattle pond, Construction of masonry check dam etc.
Kotteri Watershed Development Project in Cuddalore District, Supported by NABARD & TITAN
Kotteri watershed is located in the Virudhachalam block of Cuddalore district. Full Implementation Phase of the project covers five villages namely, Kotteri, Mudhanai, Aladi, Mathur, and Palayapatinam. Total area of Kotteri watershed is 1232.874 Ha hectares including the area covered under capacity building phase and full implementation phase.
Major Interventions are Field bund, chisel plough, farm pond, cattle pond, catch pit, Agro forestry, Agro horticulture, Channel formation and construction of masonry check dam etc.
Narumanam Watershed Development Project in Cuddalore District, Supported by NABARD & TITAN
Narumanam watershed is located in the Virudhachalam block of Cuddalore district. Full Implementation Phase of the project covers the villages namely, Narumanam, Kotteri, U. Agaram, Mudhanai. Total area of Narumanam watershed is 1119.952 hectares including the area covered under capacity building phase and full implementation phase.
Major Interventions are Field bund, chisel plough, sunken pond, fodder development, catch pit, Agro forestry, Agro horticulture, Channel formation and percolation tank etc
